Acoma Pueblo

Also known as Sky City, Acoma is perched on a dramatic 367-foot sandstone mesa.
Visits by guided tour only (8 am--7 pm April--October; fee).  Feast days and
celebrations.  Fees for still photography.  Visitor center with restaurant,
cafe, craft shop and museum below the mesa.  I-40 west to State 108, then
9 miles south to Acoma Tourist Visitor Center; 252-1139.

Coronado State Monument

The monument preserves the ruins of the Kuaua Pueblo, home of the ancient
Tiwa-speaking Indians.  Restored kiva, kiva murals.  Visitor center, museum,
picnic areas, campsites.  Adults $2; 16 and younger free.  One mile north of
Bernalillo on State 44, off I-25; 867-5351.

Indian Pueblo Cultural Center

The life and culture of New Mexico's 19 Indian Pueblos are displayed in
exhibits on history, arts and crafts, and in videos; traditional dances and
art demonstrations are held on weekends (photography allowed).  Museum
(admission; children under 5 free), galleries, shops, restaurant.  Daily

National Atomic Museum

Exhibits trace the history of the nuclear age from the Los Alamos-based
Manhattan Project of the 1940s through the issues of today.  Daily, except
major holidays.  On Kirtland Air Force Base (obtain a pass at the Gibson or
Wyoming gates); 845-6670.

New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science

Innovative exhibits, including a high-tech time trip; fossils from dinosaurs
discovered in New Mexico; Dynamax theater (admission).  Daily 9 am--5 pm.

Petroglyph National Monument

More than 15,000 petroglyphs on the West Mesa volcanic escarpment.  Three
self-guided trails.  Nature hikes conducted by National Park Service staff
daily from Memorial Day to the end of Balloon Fiesta (early October).  Open
daily except major holidays.  Parking fee at Boca Negra Canyon.  Visitors

Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway

The world's longest single-span tramway whisks passengers up 4000 feet in
18 minutes to the 10,378-foot-high ridgetop of the Sandia Mountains.

San Felipe de Neri

The oldest church in Albuquerque, established by Franciscan friars in 1706 and
rebuilt after the original structure collapsed in 1793.  Daily mass; mass in
