Gregory Reid reid@math.ubc.ca Differential-Algebraic and Differential-Geometric Elimination Algorithms for Systems of PDEs We hope to invite speakers to cover each of the major approaches to Differential Elimination Algorithms: Differential-Algebraic methods, Differential-Geometric methods, Riquier-Janet based approaches, and approaches based on Exterior Differential Systems; one objective being to highlight the similarities and differences between these evolving methods. It is planned that this area will begin with a half-hour survey lecture (by one of the organisers) which is introductory in nature; and will end with a half-hour open chaired discussion which will include following topics: mathematical difficulties in differential-algebraic and differential-geometric methods for systems of PDEs; the issue of efficiency; future directions and applications.
