Airbag Simulation

A pre-inflated airbag (red) is initially filled with a pressurized gas (blue) and then is impacted by a solid probe (green) that is given in initial velocity of 3.90 m/s. This calculation is axisymmetric with a horizontal symmetry axis. The figures below compare MPM results to a PISCES finite element calculation and to an experiment done by de Coo. On the left, the displacement of the probe as a function of time is compared, and on the right the membrane configuration at t=40ms for the two simulations is compared.
