When you transfer coursework to UNM there is something that you must know.

Accepted transfer credits do not transfer as course equivalents. To have courses evaluated as transfer equivalents you must visit the department from which you are seeking an equivalent. In cases of courses that are less than 15 years old, many departments have access to a college database that will provide the course descriptions. If the courses are older than 15 years, then it is imperative that you provide a course description from the catalog for the advisor making the course evaluation.

Course equivalencies are particularly important in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

To receive credit for courses or to use courses as prerequisites the Coordinator, Program Advisement, must evaluate these courses. Once an equivalency is given a transfer evaluation is sent to Transfer Admissions and the prerequisite hold is lifted. It is important that you understand that the Department will not accept math credits that are older than five years as prerequisites for Mathematics or Statistics courses.

For example, if you had Intermediate Algebra or its equivalent in December of 1995—you would be required to repeat the Intermediate Algebra course or to take a COMPASS placement test so that you could take the next course in a Mathematics sequence.

We have provided a transfer link (at the bottom of this page) for students to look up courses they may have taken at another college or university. The link currently only lists courses that we have evaluated in the Department, It is by no means a comprehensive list, but these courses will help you determine your equivalencies when planning your schedule. REMEMBER YOU MUST HAVE ANY COURSES NOT IN THIS LIST EVALUATED IMMEDIATELY BY THE DEPARTMENT because they will not automatically transfer. The only courses that automatically receive equivalencies are those in the database, which is the same database that Transfer Admissions uses, or your courses come from a college or university in New Mexico with an articulation agreement with UNM.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Roxanne Littlefield, Coordinator, Program Advisement at rxlitfil@math.unm.edu or phone at (505) 277-5250.
