Computer Systems

The following machines are for general use and are available for remote connection.

Name Description Operating Env CPU(s) Memory
joyspride Sun Ultra 2 Solaris 8 2 400 MHz 2048 MB
llull Sun Blade 100 Solaris 8 1 500 MHz SPARC 2048 MB
qalasadi Sun Fire V210 Solaris 9 2 1.2 GHz SPARC 4 GIG
ezra Monarch i386 Fedora Core 2 2 1600 MHz athlon 2048 MB
lax Monarch i386 Fedora Core 2 2 2600 MHz athlon 2048 MB

Remember to add the domain to the machine name if you are connecting to it remotely.
For example, to ssh into joyspride, the following command would be appropriate:

ssh joyspride.math.unm.edu

We ask that you use the correct machine for your job. In other words, if you have a long-running CPU or memory intensive job, qalasadi is appropriate. If you are connecting to run pine to read your email, llull or joyspride are appropriate. If you are getting poor response from either llull or joyspride because of high load (use the "top" command and look at "percent idle"), switch, via ssh, to the other.
